Foreword
The growing awareness concerning ecological problems is increasingly
affecting the economic and production choices and all the issues
of daily life; chemistry in particular is constantly aimed by
the public opinion as production processes, handling and many
products are often associated to danger and pollution.
In most cases this perception has nothing to do with the reality
of facts, however it still is a highly negative factor that
should be appropriately opposed and disproved.
We strongly feel the need of changing this opinion and make
the public aware both about the responsibility and the attention
to these issues by all the chemical sectors, as the industry
itself deems them essential for its survival and development.
Responsible Care, through the promotion of specific ethic behaviors
and the adoption of self-evaluation systems, of improvement
goals, of transparency and communication, represents a clear
demonstration of this engagement.
These are the ultimate issues capable of positively changing
the current image of chemistry held by the various bodies, public
administration, the general population as well as users and
staff of the companies.
Responsible Care is an initiative based on voluntary participation
and involving the adoption of a Health, Safety and Environment
policy as an integral feature of company strategies.
Through the participation in this Program the chemical distributors
will be able to act in perfect agreement with the policy of
the most important international production companies, thus
appearing as their harmonious and consistent complementary stage.
